Hi to all,
I had a Guardian Generator model#05243 installed on 08/10/2007 by a Guardian authorized installer. Installation, test under load, voltage and frequency was all checked and in order. A weekly test cycle for every Monday @ 7:00p.m. was set for the weekly automatic excercise. Since Aug 10,2007 the generator did its weekly Automatic excercise. Early this morning Around 3:30 a.m. I woke up and heard the generator running. Weather prediction was were supposed to get thunder storms and rain. At first I thought that the power was out. The street lights were on but the generator was running . After doing some investigation the power was on but the generator was running. By this time it was already time for me to head for work and decided to shut it off . It shut off but the Overspeed Red light is blinking. When I came home I decided to check it out and the Overspeed Red light is still blinking . Can I reset it ? . I made a call to the compnay that installed it....still waiting,waiting,waiting.....more waiting ...Any Help and assistance is greatly appreciated . Thank's...Orlok Farms South Carolina |

Unfortunately, you will find that many guardian authorized dealers like the installation part of the revenue stream, but not the service side for which they will get reimbursed by Generac, but if they don't really stay current they likely won't get it right the first time and second, if they have to make calls back and forth to Generac they start to lose money. Generac does not appear to care that their service people don't follow through.
If Kelly from Ziller has seen this exact problem before, he might be able to help you over the phone. Generac does have a customer service number, but they don't like to answer it unless it is a dealer. Call Kelly and ask if there are any Generac Elite dealers in your area. Also tell him the installer will not return calls. Generac's field service group sucks big time. Do you have a volt ohm meter and do you know how to use it? We need to start somewhere. Check the fuses in your transfer switch panel first. Then, you might need to get your rpm down a tad. |

Gentlemen,
Mr. Bill. Thank You for your reply . Finally my Authorized Guardian Dealer Came thru. Called me around 7:00p.m. . He was sorry that he did not get back to me sooner . Anyways he came this morning and trouble shoot the problem. He said this is the very first one that he has seen with the problem. Consulted with GENERAC and trouble shoot the Generator while he was on the phone with Generac. The verdict was the CIRCUIT Board went bad. He ordered a circuit board and will install it as soon as it comes in.He will try to get it overnight and when it comes in tomorrow my Guardian Technician said that he will install it either tomorrow or this weekend. My generator is working and on line but I have to manually start it for now until the new Circuit Board is re-placed. I am keeping my fingers cross. So far my Guardian Installer has been good so far. Thank's. again...... ![]() |

I find it rather interesting that the controller board (my model anyway) is not sealed like the Voltage regulator, mainly because of condensation issues on the components.

Mr. pcfrisch,
Funny thing about your E-mail. My GENERAC Repair man when he opened the generator cover he mentioned about moisture inside.. We have not at all for two months now that we did not have any rain. That early morning we had rain prediction and it did rain. I even pointed out to him today when he mentioned about moisture. It states from the inside data plate that it is supposed to be water proof enclosure. I just wonder too!!! Thank You!!! |

For what it is worth, I have a 4390-3 Generac and felt sure that it needed a control board so I bought one. The old one was dry as a bone and it bturned out that it was also not the problem. The new board acted exactly the same. After finding out the problem was the stator, it will run on either board, but mine is behind a fairly tight fit panel and would not get wet very easily. None of the electrics showed any signs of condensation or weather being able to get in there.

Hi,All
First , I would like to Thank Mr. Kelly Myers for this great Website. Also thank you for all the folks that makes this Forum. Well my Generac Technician finally received the Circuit Card board that needs to replace the faulty one. After he installed the board, tested it, run it and do all that needs to be done......Guess what?????? That red light was still blinking . It puzzed him and dug more deeper into it...... On his last resort... he tested the SWITCH that you put either on Manual/off/automatic. He said that is weird , I guess he found a problem when he say's that..... He went to his truck got a new switch, replaced it. Put the new board. Fired it up. The green light comes on and it worked . Took the new board out and put the old board and fired it up . The green light came on and Everything worked . Including the weekly cycle. What he told me was it was the switch. ........ I guess the Techical engineer he consulted in Generac also missed that part. He wanted me to run the generator this weekend unless we get a power outage before that and see what it does like the scenario without power. With Full load and let him know....... It sound's like my doctor... So folk's ..here's another problem solved.....For Generac Technicians out there and my Fellow ZILLERGIAN'S or ZILLERAC'S (Just made it up ,pick-one or both) :. Here's another actual OJT lesson learned... P.S. Mr. Kelly Myers.....Thank You for your help and encouragement when I called you Monday morning...... Thank's again...... Orlokfarms |
