I know some units came with one but mine (4390-1) did not. I've been keeping hour estimates in a journal, which is kinda low rent. How hard would it be to add one? what wires would I tap? Can I buy the one generac uses? Thanks!

That is a link to our "Tiny Tachs" They are a sealed unit, so you can't replace the battery. They last around 7 years, and they take about 5 minutes to install. It monitors spark pulse by wrapping a monitoring wirearound the spark plug wire. When the engine is running, it starts counting, minutes and hours. It also works as a tachometer, but it is NOT accurate enough to use during engine diagnosis. I will do a "how to" install with one of these because we sell a ton of them. I believe we have around 1200 in stock. Thanks! |

When it arrives, you will simply have to wrap the red wire around the back spark plug on your v-twin, and you will see a little ground wire. I would suggest putting that on one of the back valve cover bolts. It is a 10mm bolt.
