I have a quietsource that is 1 1/2 years old that smokes badly and burns oil so badly it smokes out a city block. It has been serviced regularly. I noticed the insulation on the intake side is almost blocking the air flow and I think it may have overheated. Any suggestions?:

Oh! You have one of those generators that you can't hear run, even if you're standing next to it! That particular generator uses a 992CC engine turned on its side to a belt driven rotor. The only problem I've experienced with those is when people run them with the lid or side door open, and it cannot properly push air through the generator portion to cool it down.
Those engines are very reliable, and if the rings went, I'm sure it would have made some noises and wouldn't run. If it runs fine, but it smokes really bad, I'm guessing the belt is slipping on the rotor, and making the smoke. Is this under warranty? I can put you in touch with a good service dealer. Please email me at kelly*@zillerelectric.com (remove the *) I'm going on a 10 day offroad expedition tomorrow, so I will not be back until the 9th of July. Feel free to call our office, and someone will be able to point you to a good dealer! Toll free @ 1-888-2-ZILLER |
