From the data listed for the new 18KW air-cooled, it runs at 66db instead of 71db for the 16KW. That ought to be a fairly noticeable improvement. Can you confirm it sounds quieter if you've heard one run? Is it better insulated or a different engine?

Still waiting on my initial semi load of these things. They keep getting delayed another 2 weeks :(
Hopefully any day now.

What model # is this? I don't see any 18KW models on the Guardian web site; can someone provide a link?

Its listed here on zillerelectric.com as a 5416. There's also some data at these sites. It appears to be aluminum only, with a 200A service entrance RTS.

Actually, I see from that new product catalog at Guardian, that they've apparently made the 16KW units quieter also. They're now listed at 66db normal load, and 60db exercise too.

Thats very odd. There is nothing different about the new 5244's. I'll have to put a DB meter up to a new one and do some testing.
Unless Guardian chose not to mark the changes with a revision number, they are still 005244-0

Kelly,
While we're talking about the new 18KW sets, what's the surge capacity of it? My 4ton AC's LRA is 110A (RLA 21.5A) and I'm wondering if the 16 or 18 will actually handle that without a capacitor.

Well, I just received 66 of these things. (semi load). I should have time to play with one of them this week. Then I will have the numbers for you.
