(I post this on another thread but thought that it was appropriate to post my message here as well.)

When I was calling around for service, it seemed like every servicer didnt want to get involved since the unit wasnt installed by them (even though it was installed by a Generac certified company). It also seemed that I knew more about the generator and how it worked than the techs that were going to provide the service. The original company wanted just about $600 to come out and take a look, even though the genset was less than 20 miles from their office.

If I ever do buy another one, I'm going to buy it from a good dealer with an established history and service record...

I’ve been a member of this forum for the past three years and I don't post often but I just wanted to add my two cents to this conversation. I’m one of the folks, who, along with an electrician friend of mine, self-installed the generator at my home, from the wiring to the gas lines-we did the complete installation. (I’m not an electrician myself but I performed electronics work when I was in the Army, so I have a basic understanding of electricity but I don’t know all of the code requirements that need to be addressed during an installation.) I’m in the process of getting ready to sell my house and move to a smaller residence. Although my generator worked just fine, for peace of mind I wanted to have another set of trained eyes inspect my generator prior to putting my house up for sale.

I called Yucan2, who is a senior member and frequent poster on this board and asked if he would be willing to drive out to my home to take a look at my installation. Leroy came out last Thursday and inspected the installation and was pretty pleased with what he saw, but, he DID find a code error. It was nothing that would have caused an operational problem with the generator but nonetheless, it was a code issue that needed to be addressed. After obtaining parts, he promptly returned two days later and remedied the problem. We tested the system out and everything works just fine and my system is now code compliant. (Yes, I know…it should have been code compliant to begin with, but that’s not the point here.) The reason I’m posting today is because as Dan alluded to it can be hard to find someone who is qualified and willing to provide the service you may need. Most home owners really just don’t know who to call nor do they have any idea as to the qualifications of the technician on the other end of the phone line. I’d personally like to reassure anyone in the greater Chicago-land or northwest Indiana areas who are looking for a true professional that is highly qualified and takes pride in his work, that you can be confident that Leroy will provide you with top notch service and a very high level of attention to detail---(and no, I don’t work for Leroy). He can be reached at http://pandlelectriccompany.com/. And one more thing. Besides being a top notch electrician and generator technician, he’s a real gentleman and one hell of a nice guy, too. :)
