What is the maximum continuous current i should test my generator at? The name plate shows 104 amps but I doubt you would want to test at that current for an extended period of time. I got the generator from a friend bbecause he had bought a new one when the brushes failed on this one. I replaced the brushes ith new ones. I then tested it by hooking up a 15 kw furnace to it to test fuel consumption and performance. The unit ran for 2.5 hrs and burned up the brushes. Can you tell me what might of caused this if my test current wasn't the cause? The new brushes came with leads and an extra short black lead I grounded it to the screw that holds the brushes in place, could that be a problem? Please help thanks

A 25kw can be ran with 25kw load on it until the oil needs to be changed.

What is the model number, so I can look into what we're dealing with?

It should be 00????-?

have several disinterested parties say the rotor must be bad. I have megged out the rotor and stator and they seem fine (no grounds) have not put rotor on a growler yet. Genreator has 15.4 hours on it and the slip ringers look a little rough ( rust maybe ) the unit is a 03 model. It was a standby generator with nothing but exercise hours . the first time they tried to use it it burned up the brushes. Any suggestions?

I would not associate the rotor being bad with brushes burning up.

You say there is rust on the slip rings? Replace them or shine them up. This is eating away the brushes.

As I mentioned in my first post, when I first layed eyes on the generator the brushes were not on the machine and just the black and red leads ( 2 wires with eyelet connectors and jumpers to the second brush ) were hanging in front of the end bell. When i ordered the new brushes they came with an extra wire off the end of the black brush lead. That lead was about 4 inches long, so I assumed it connected to the screw on the brush holder, effectively grounding the negative side thinking it might need a referance to ground. Could that wire have caused too much current to go to that set of brushes. The negative brushes were the only ones that failed, the failure was not necessarilly in the brushes, but in the brush holder (it melted). The negative side did show some wear though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yesterday around 10AM here, a construction crew ripped into a fiber optic line. We do not have phones or internet.

And to make it worse, we are switching all of our nextel phones to the new hybrid phones which use the sprint network for calling. At midnight last night, all of our nextels no longer work for dialing out.

The people who are programming our new phones will not be here until noon! So we are having big issues. :(

You were a big help. Nobody around here seemed to informed on this generator. You are very much appreciated. If you are ever in the corpus christi area give me a call and I'll take you to the cabin this generator will be installed on.

Glad that you are up and running! Remember to change the oil on that thing, and it will last forever.
