My boss is giving me the go ahead for Generacs Factory training. Before I register though, I am curious if any of you have been through the Air Cooled 2 day class and how insightful it was. We have recieved local training from Carrier that has been more of a sales pitch to motivate sales instead of troubleshooting and repair training.
I want to make sure he isn't wasting the money on class and airfair only to find out I re-learned what I've read from the repair manual and from online.
So, is it worth it or not?

It is actually pretty helpful for basic HSB troubleshooting. I've actually attended that class three times. The old training facility was attached to the plant in whitewater which was cool because you could see how the lines work. The new facility is in the middle of nowhere. On the upside though, the new "hotel" they put you up in is awesome, especially the bar :)
First day is nothing but bookwork and theory of generators. The next morning is pretty much troubleshooting methods. Then they will bring you into the back of the building where they have aprox 15 generators that are "broken". Valves out of adjustment, resistors in wires, bad ice cube relays in the transfer switch. basically you form a group of two or three then tackle the generator/x-fer switch and fix all the problems. There are Generac techs there to help you along if you need it.
After you fix them, you get to break them for the next class!
