I want to change out the 240V 20 Amp breaker that came pre-installed with my 16 circuit ATS. My question is if I put in 2 110V 15A breakers, where do I get my neutrals from, since the 240V circuits do not use one? Do I need to physically pull over two more neutrals through the conduit and attach them in the ATS? If so, does it matter where (physical location on the nuetral bar)?

Thanks in advance. So far the genset is up and running, and all but these two circuits are being used. The wife wants kitchen lights now in a power outage, but due to the three conducter wiring throughout my panel, I was limited to the circuits I could move.

I pulled the 30A breaker from my 7kw ATS and installed to 15A circuts. Yes, you will need to pull to new neutral wires for the new breakers. They can be placed anywhere on the neutral bar, preferably under unused screws, if available.

That's what I thought, but the engineer in me is questioning why. From what I can see, the individual neutrals are acting as a redundant neutral in the event that the large (4AWG) neutral becomes damaged and/or loose. Wouldn't I still be protected with all the other neutrals already bonded between the ATS and the main panel?

I guess what I am asking is are the two additional neutrals absolutely necessary? I will probably pull them in anyway, I just don't fully understand the need for them.
