The brand new 992 engine now uses automotive style graphite coated pistons, new rings, and a slightly larger oil filter. The new model generators are good for 200 hours in between oil changes! This includes the new 13kw, and 16kw models!
We still recommend 5w30 synthetic oil even though the manual says you may run straight 30.

I have not fired up my new 16K, the oil level is low, should I drain whats left and change the filter, and add the 5-30? I dont know what viscosity is in the crankcase from the factory....

You can add alittle 5w30 to make it level. That is mineral oil inside the crankcase right now. You can follow the manuals recommendation of doing the 8 hour run, and then change oil, or you can do the break in that we recommend. Either way, that oil is there only for break in purposes, and it will mix with normal oil!
Get that generator broken in so you're ready for the power outages! :D

1 hour - 25% load
1 hour - 50% load
1 hour - 75% load
1 hour - full load
Change oil, change oil filter, forget about the generator until the power goes out.

I see that my 16kw generator's 992 engine came with the larger oil filter. I recently ordered extra filters for the upcoming oil changes and noticed that they are smaller than what's currently on the motor. Is it okay to use these smaller filters with the new engine design you mentioned in a previous post ? Also, 200 hrs between oil changes or stick with the 100 hrs ?
Thanks
