View Full Version : dB sound level of the 16 and 18 KW gensets

has anyone checked the sound level of the 16 and 18 kw gensets ? i have seen them listed at 66 db at load and 71.5 at load my 4390-2 is 71.5 db i would like to update to a new genset if its 66 db

The 66db you're seeing listed some places is the "whisper-test" mode. During its weekly test, it runs at 2300RPM's instead of the normal 3600RPM's.

The new 992 family of engines sound identical to the older 992's.

wish someone would let generac know they have them listed at 66 db normal load and 60 db exercise thats whats listed on there site in specs. i would not be a happy camper if i bought a new unit and it was not as listed

Wow, you aren't kidding.

I do know it now says "Average running load".

I'll use my DB meter on an install soon, and see what they're yielding. I would think it would have been huge news if the db's dropped by 5 all of the sudden. I will investigate at work tomorrow.

I think they must have used the maximum db's in their literature before, where it is now an "average"

i did notice that the muffler is differnt on the new units its more like a header from the engine now.and generac likes to run them a little slow could this be why they dont run them 60.0 hz. get the db down looks good on paper a selling point everyone likes a quiet genset
