Kelly,
What is your take on Kick start or hard start caps for AC pumps. My 16kw genset takes a load hit when the compressor starts, but handles the load fine after the compressor is running. Do you recommend these or maybe you have other solutions.

Thanks,
Jamey

I don't know where Kelly has been lately, but I believe that he recommends the caps to get past that initial surge. I think if you do a search you may find that he has commented on their use prior.

Good luck,

Bill

An August webcast for sizing of guardian residential generators that I participated in went over start-up capacitors as a strategy for limiting the required generator size and how to determine the size needed. A slide from the presentation shows a ICM brand model, so I guess they like them. If you want to see the webcast, they're doing it again on October 9 and they didn't seem to mind a homeowner like myself sitting in. Look for "webcasts" under News and Events on the Generac homepage.
