Kelly,

Hi, First, Thank You for a great Website and Forum. I recently purchased
a 16KW Guardian from a local home improvement store prior to finding your website.. It is still in shipping crate. I Think I finally found a fair and
reasonable electrician. I Live in Charleston,SC. Everybody that I contacted seams they want to charge an arm and a leg for install.:( ....

Here's my question's;

1. What is a reasonable and or fair price for installation. Here's my situation.

The site preparation and the generator placement is already done. I have my Gas man line-up and the gas line is done. The dirty work is already done.I only needed an electrician to hook up the indoor 16 circuit automatic transfer switch load center to the pre-wired outdoor connection box and to test the system. The gas man will also be there at the same day to hook up the gas and also do his test to make sure no problem with the generator. I have some knowledge about home electrical and I am a "DIY" person. The main thing why I wanted a licensed and certified electrician do it for me is for the warranty of the generator.

2. The electrician that I found also said that he also would like to do the 4 hours break-in period at the time of install and test. Is this okey..

Thank You in advance and Thank's again for a great site/Forum.

P.S. I am ordering the Hour meter (Ttach) and the (ACMAINT) on your website. Thank's...

Installation prices seem to change as per your state/city.

If the generator is within 30' of the transfer switch location, and the gas is within 10', we charge a basic fee of $1,100.00 to install the gas and electric. We have in house mechanical/electrical here.

We also charge the physical cost of the permits to the homeowner, and the physical cost of the inspections.

Beyond 10' gas, we charge $6.00 per foot, and beyond 30' electrical we charge $7.00 per foot.

Our pricing includes the battery, ground rod, delivery, leveling of ground, 90lbs of pea stone, generator placement, and of course testing the system, and filling out the warranty card.

With the new automotive grade pistons in the generator, it is no longer necessary to do the 4 hour break-in at 25%/50%/75%/100% loads per hour.

You just want to change the oil after 8 hours of run time. Replace the oil with 5w30 syn, and of course swap out the filter.

If you're using the 16 pos transfer switch, and its within 30' of the generator, I would guess your electrical installation to be around the $450-$650 range.

This should be around 3 hours of work for a journeyman/apprentice on site.

Mr. Kelly,

Hi. Thank You for your great info. The people and the area you are servicing do not know how much they got it made .Your basic fee and what is included is very reasonable . I would not hesitate to call your company to install my generator if I live in Michigan. Thank's again .
Great website/forum!!!:)
