i have a 4456 and when i came back from vacation in Feb i noticed the red overspeed led on--i switched to off then to run the gen started-i checked the voltage -it was within limits
i recall a post that you answered regarding a problem with a poor ground in the cold weather which could cause this overspeed led to come on

i would apprecate if you could hel me on this-i have not had this prob since Feb--but am concerned thT NEXT WINTER THE PROB COULD COME BACK --SINCE THE UINIT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHat caused this problem so i could have it checked-and maybe if something needs to be replaced-i can get it done before the warranty expires

thanks

Hi Lou.
If you had it happen one time in a couple years, there is nothing to worry about. If you had a bad ground, it should have shown itself again. It could have been a burp in your fuel supply. If fuel was in a low pressure situation when it was running, it would have ran lean. Lean engines run fast, and could have went over 3600 RPM's and shutdown. Or if the generator was running, and you had a close lightning strike, it could have tricked the safety shut down into thinking there was a high voltage situation.

If it has been running its weekly cycle without any issues, then there isn't one. If you're worried about it shutting down again, you can get into a generator monitoring system. Please feel free to call me if you need more information. We sell products that monitor the generator, and call you if it fails for any reason.

Thanks

hi
thanks for thr reply makes me feel better
i am very interested in what you have for a monitoring system for the 4456 unit-how do i get the info

ps i am the one whose son bought a Kholer 12RES from you a few months back--i installed it with the transfer switch and the installation when without a hitch--very impressed with the unit --nice clean freq and very steady voltage when we switch to the gen the APC units don't even hiccup-transfer very smooth--i love the feature of testing the unit from the transfer switch(under load or no load)

Glad you like the 12RES. I will be starting up a Kohler forum this summer, so I can tackle the common Kohler issues.

About the call boxes, we have not found a cheap call box that works. And the whole purpose of a call box is reliability.

I have some products for around $500.00 that monitor your house. All you need it a open plug, and a phone line.

I will have a post up soon about this, until then, feel free to call us.
